ThreadSmith - writing workflow concept

A product concept for turning rough ideas into readable X threads, using AI for editorial judgement and deterministic rules for platform constraints.

The writing problem

I wanted a better way to turn rough thoughts into X posts and threads without losing my own voice. The difficult part was deciding where a longer piece should split: a mechanical character-limit cut can separate an example from its point or leave an awkward final post.

ThreadSmith is the product concept I developed around that problem. The features described here are proposed, rather than functionality of a completed app.

My contribution

I defined the writing problem and proposed a workflow that separates editorial judgement from platform validation. The concept centres on meaningful thread structure, preserving personal voice and giving the writer control before publishing.

I developed a product concept and workflow specification focused on meaningful thread structure, explicit platform constraints and deliberate review by the writer.

The core design decision

Use AI for judgement. Use deterministic rules for constraints.

AI would suggest where thoughts naturally divide, considering meaning, sentence relationships and pacing. A separate validator would check whether each proposed post fits the platform’s rules. Neither responsibility should be treated as a substitute for the other.

Proposed ThreadSmith workflow: a rough idea passes through AI editorial structuring, deterministic validation, then human editing and review
An explanatory diagram of the proposed workflow. This is a concept illustration, not an application screenshot or evidence of a working implementation.

The proposed writing workflow

  1. Start with the idea. Bring rough notes or longer writing into one drafting space.
  2. Suggest a structure. Use AI to propose readable posts and natural transitions while preserving the intended voice.
  3. Validate the constraints. Check proposed posts using deterministic platform rules, including special handling where required.
  4. Keep the writer in control. Let the user edit the wording, adjust divisions and preview the complete thread.
  5. Publish deliberately. A future publishing integration would need explicit review, safe credential handling and a clear response to partial failures.

Product trade-offs

The concept distinguishes fitting within a limit from making good editorial sense. It also places human review before publishing: writing assistance should support a deliberate decision, rather than quietly treating generated text as final.

Exact validation rules and publishing behaviour would need to be verified against the platform when implementation begins. The specification alone does not establish those integrations.

Current status

ThreadSmith remains a concept. No working app, live publishing connection, user adoption or commercial result is claimed. The next implementation step would be a draft-and-preview prototype to test whether the proposed separation of judgement and validation produces a useful writing workflow.
